New Floors Nation Rubberised Floors

About the service

Rubberised flooring is engineered for environments where the floor has to work harder than aesthetics alone can justify. Gymnasiums, commercial kitchens, sports facilities, weight rooms, industrial workshops, healthcare environments and children’s play areas all place demands on a floor surface that standard flooring products are not designed to meet, including impact absorption, slip resistance, chemical tolerance, acoustic management and fatigue reduction over hours of continuous use.

New Floors Nation supplies and installs Sportec rubber flooring, a specialist product line engineered to the performance requirements of professional sports, fitness and commercial environments. Our rubberised flooring solutions are available in tile and roll formats, across a range of thicknesses determined by the specific impact and load requirements of the application, and in a selection of colours and finishes suited to both functional and brand-conscious environments.

Impact Absorption

Rubber's natural elasticity absorbs the energy of dropped weights, jumping and high-impact activity.

Slip Resistance Body

Rubber provides reliable grip across wet and dry conditions in kitchens, sports facilities and pool surrounds.

Fatigue Reduction Body

Rubber's cushioning properties reduce joint and lower-back strain for people standing for extended periods.

Durable Under Extreme Conditions Body

Rubber withstands heavy loads, chemical cleaning agents and sustained high traffic without losing its integrity.

Types of Commercial Spaces

The specification of rubberised flooring varies significantly depending on the nature of the application. For free-weight and strength training areas, where dropped weights and Olympic lifts are a regular occurrence, thick rubber tiles of 15mm to 20mm and beyond are required to absorb impact energy and protect the structural slab. For cardio and multi-purpose gym floors, a thinner continuous roll rubber of 6mm to 8mm provides the correct balance of cushioning and stability for treadmills, cycling equipment and group fitness activity. Indoor sports courts require a rubber surface with a consistent hardness specification that supports lateral movement, provides appropriate ball bounce, and meets the acoustic and safety requirements of competitive sport. Commercial kitchen and industrial environments require a rubber product resistant to oils, cleaning chemicals and thermal shock, with a surface texture that maintains grip under contaminated conditions. Healthcare environments benefit from rubber’s inherent acoustic dampening and its seamless installation options that eliminate the harbourage points associated with grouted or planked floor surfaces. Our team assesses your environment, the specific activities it will support, and any regulatory or safety requirements before specifying the correct Sportec product and thickness.

Key Elements of Interior Design

Rubberised flooring is a precision specification and not a commodity purchase. The thickness, density, surface texture, installation format and subfloor preparation requirements all vary based on the application, and an incorrectly specified rubber floor will either underperform for its environment or represent an unnecessary cost. Our team brings the technical knowledge to match the right product to the right space.

Frequently asked questions

How thick should rubber gym flooring be?

Thickness depends on the activity. General multi-purpose gym floors typically use 6mm to 8mm roll rubber. Free-weight areas where heavy weights are dropped from height require 15mm to 20mm tiles at minimum. Olympic lifting platforms may require additional thickness or layered installations. We assess your intended use before specifying.

Yes. Concrete is the standard substrate for rubber flooring. The slab should be level, clean and dry before installation. Where moisture is present in the slab, we address this as part of the preparation process to ensure the adhesive bond performs correctly over time.

Certain rubber products in our range are specified for outdoor applications including play areas, pool surrounds and outdoor fitness spaces. Outdoor rubber must be UV-stabilised and drainage-rated. We specify the correct outdoor product type and installation method for the specific environment.

Regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove grit, and periodic damp mopping with a rubber-compatible cleaner, is sufficient for most environments. Avoid solvent-based cleaners, which can degrade the rubber surface over time. We provide specific maintenance guidance based on the product installed.
